Please see below to find the right level for your child:

  • Students "get their feet wet" with the water, and work towards comfortability in it
  • Learning the rules of the pool, how we interact with the water, and of course how to have fun in the water
  • Practice skills necessary for swimming such as: how to enter and exit pool, putting face in the water, floating, breath control, and how to move around in the water
  • We evaluate their skills every month to see if their ready to "dive deeper" into swimming by entering Level 2
  • Students who have shown their comfortability in the water and an ability to float and move across the water will start learning specific strokes
  • To start swimming on the front, we teach the kids "Front Crawl" and have them practice it many times to give them feedback to ensure good form
  • To start swimming on the back, we teach the kids "Elementary Backstroke" and explain it as one of the most energy efficient stroke for survival purposes if they found themselves in open water
  • Additionally they learn other skills such as "Surface Diving" to retrieve objects under water and "Treading Water" to keep their head above water in deeper water
  • We evaluate their mastery of these skills before having the swimmers take the final "Plunge" into Level 3
  • Students who can swim but want to push further and learn all the elements of swimming will find this class as preparation for something like a swim team
  • Adding to their bag of tricks strokes like "Breaststroke", "Backcrawl", "Sidestroke", and "Butterfly"
  • Learning the rhythm and timing each stroke for the most efficient form and further emphasizing breath control
  • Pushing to swim longer distances and faster sprint times
  • Preparation for swimming skills used in competition and lifeguarding such as "Flip Turns", "Diving", and "Towing"

Please come into the recreation center for swim lesson registration to ensure your child is signed up for the right level. We have limited spots available for each level and if your child is registered for too high of a level they will struggle to keep up and will not get as much out of the class.
