Pet Safety
The American Humane Association reports that July 5th is the busiest day of the year for animal shelters. Unlike people, pets don’t associate the noise, flashes, and burning smell of pyrotechnics with celebration. Please remember to secure your pets during the 4th of July celebrations. "Many are scared by the fireworks and tend to jump or dig out of their secure areas" explained Katherine Corrao, Lancaster Animal Control Officer. "Consider bringing dogs inside during these festivities and leave music and lights on for them." "Make sure they have collars with owner information tags as well." Should your dog become frightened by the fireworks and escape, you may contact the Lancaster Animal Shelter as early as Monday morning at 8 a.m. at (972) 218-1210, or visit them at 690 E. Main Street.
