A Message from the Fire Chief

Welcome to the Lancaster Fire Department (LFD) website. It is my honor to serve the nearly 40,000 residents and visitors of the City of Lancaster as Fire Chief. I am proud to lead the men and women of LFD who have pledged to risk their safety for your well-being.  Our department’s mission is “To provide a well-prepared team of professionals, dedicated to our community by safely protecting lives and property through public education and emergency response."

I have challenged our team to remember three E’s while carrying out our mission:

  • Effective - What we do must produce the desired outcome.
  • Efficient – We must obtain a return that is equal to or greater than the resources that we invest.
  • Enjoyable – We should strive to create a work environment that encourages high performance and positive interaction with both internal and external stakeholders.

I am committed to make use of my thirty-two plus years’ of experience and knowledge gained from the National Fire Academy Executive Fire Officer Program.  I also attended the Fire Service Chief Executive Officer Program, sponsored by Texas A&M University, in the ongoing development of our department, to not only meet, but exceed the expectations of the citizens of Lancaster.

We would love to meet you.  Stop by your local fire stations if you have questions, would like to tour the station, or just to say hello.  Our doors are always open!

Sincerely,

Kenneth L. Johnson, Fire Chief
