Best Yard Award

This initiative has been established to promote goodwill and reward exemplary lawn care in the community. The purpose is to recognize neighbors who demonstrate above-average efforts in maintaining their property, thereby contributing to the overall appearance of the community at large. This is a great award and the program is administered by volunteers.

Every quarter we will be showcasing one Lancaster Homeowner and one business owner who has kept their yard in exceptional condition. The Lancaster Eyes & Ears Program (LEEP) volunteers will vote for and choose a lawn that best typifies the qualities of uniqueness, beauty, appeal, and consistency with the following guidelines:

  1. Maintenance: Quality of Lawn; how the property is manicured; Weed Control; Trees & Plantings
  • Lawn: Healthy grass with no bare spots or excessive weeds. Grass shall be mowed and edged, and grass around foundations and fences shall be trimmed.
  • Landscape and Flower Beds: Beds weeded, mulched and edged. Trees and shrubs pruned. Efforts made to improve upon builder landscaping, including the inclusion of color and the installation of new flowers, trees, and shrubs.
  • Walkways and Driveways: Walkways and driveways shall be clean. Walkways, driveways and curbs shall be edged and free of debris and dirt. Use of accent and safety lighting for an improved evening appearance.
    2. Creativity: Overall Curb Appeal; Originality of Yard; Special Effects (Water/Fountains/Lights)

  • Aesthetics: The use of originality and creativity to create an inviting front entryway and a positive overall look to the landscaping and curb appeal. Formal or informal, use of color and textures, garden art, hanging baskets and pots.
    3. Guidelines: Adherence to the HOA and PID’s rules

    4. Holiday Season: In the months of October, November and December the Best Yard Award criteria will include holiday decorations and other seasonal presentations (Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas/Hanukkah).

Winner will be recognized by Mayor and City Council, receive “Best Yard Award”, receive a decorative yard sign for display indicating winning yard, as well as posting of photo on our social media sites.
